Prayer of St. Ignatius
of Loyola
Eternal Lord of all things, I feel
Your gaze on me. I sense that Your Mother stands
near, watching and that with You are all the great
beings of heaven: angels and powers and martyrs and
saints. Lord Jesus, I think You have put a desire
in me. If You will help me, please, I would like
to make my offering. I want it to be my desire and
my choice, provided that You want it, too, to live my
life as You lived Yours. I know that You lived as
an 'insignificant person' in a little, despised town.
I know that You rarely tasted luxury and never
privilege, and that You resolutely refused to accept
power. I know that You suffered rejection by
leaders, abandonment by friends, and failure. I
know. I can hardly bear the thought o f it all.
But it seems a toweringly wonderful thing that You might
call me to follow You and stand with You. I will
labor to bring God's reign if You will give me the gift
to do it. Amen.

Prayer of St. Basil of
Caesarea Steer the ship of my
life, Lord, to Your quiet harbor, where I can be safe
from the storms of sin and conflict. Show me the
course I should take. Renew in me the gift of
discernment, so that I can see the right direction in
which I should go. And give me the strength and
the courage to choose the right course, even when the
sea is rough and the waves are high, knowing that
through enduring hardship and danger in Your Name, we
shall find comfort and peace. Amen. |

Prayer
for Vocations
Jesus, High Priest and Redeemer
forever, we beg you to call young
men and women to your service as
priests and religious. May they be
inspired by the lives of dedicated
priests, Brothers, and Sisters. Give
to parents the grace of generosity
and trust toward you and their
children so that their sons and
daughters may be helped to choose
their vocations in life with wisdom
and freedom.
Lord, you told us that the
harvest indeed is great but the
laborers are few. Pray, therefore,
the Lord of the harvest to send
laborers into his harvest. We
ask that we may know and follow the
vocation to which you have called
us. We pray particularly for those
called to serve as priests, Brothers
and Sisters; those whom you have
called, those you are calling now,
and those you will call in the
future. May they be open and
responsive to the call of serving
your people. We ask this through
Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to St.
Joseph to Know One's Vocation
O Great Saint
Joseph, you were completely
obedient to the guidance of the
Holy Spirit. Obtain for me the
grace to know the state of life
that God in his providence has
chosen for me. Since my
happiness on earth, and perhaps
even my final happiness in
heaven, depends on this choice,
let me not be deceived in making
it.
Obtain for me the light to know
God's Will, to carry it out
faithfully, and to choose the
vocation which will lead me to a
happy eternity. |

Prayer of Ven. John Henry
Newman for the Light of Truth
My
God, I confess that Thou can enlighten
my darkness. I confess that Thou alone
can. I wish my darkness to be
enlightened. I do not know whether Thou
will: but that Thou can and that I wish,
are sufficient reasons for me to ask,
what Thou at least has not forbidden my
asking. I hereby promise that by Thy
grace which I am asking, I will embrace
whatever I at length feel certain is the
truth, if ever I come to be certain. And
by Thy grace I will guard against all
self-deceit which may lead me to take
what nature would have, rather than what
reason approves. |
